nouveau musique

So, I'll be making some mixed CD's for Katherine G's CD swap and I've been thinking of what the hey I'm going to put on them! I've been totally surprised at how all-consuming this has been in my head--the types of mixes, the "flavor" of stuff, not to mention trying to decide on a "theme" (makin' art mix, hot new tunes mix, eccentric all-over-the-place mix, tunes from SF mix, etc.).

Which leads me to wonder: what's on your constant rotation? Here's mine:

albums:
"Misery is a Butterfly" Blonde Redhead
"Get Behind Me Satan" The White Stripes
"Late Registration" Kanye West
"Heart and Soul" Joy Division ultimate compilation

singles:
"Deceptacon" and "Eau de Bedroom Dancing" Le Tigre
(unknown title) song by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Shoot me any recommendations--I need to hear new music!

Oh, you'll be getting some new music! :) I'm working on my mix now. As opposed to doing schoolwork.

I just discovered Cobra Kill, and I really like their new album "Das Mandolinenorchester" with Kapajkos. It's german electronica meets mandolin...but it works! I also love Bettie Serveert. They are from the netherlands and play really smart/catchy pop. Their latest is "Atta Girl".

not so much a recommendation, but do you have the college dropout by kanye? if not, you should! i think it is way better than late registration (which still is really good, touch the sky!)

the clientele - the violet hour
wolf parade - apologies to queen mary
the books - (any album)
circulatory system - s/t

contant rotation: liquid liquid (early 70s electronica), esg (70s make you dance!) and os mutantes (brazil 70s psychedlia)

i swear, i need music that is younger than 20 years - this mix im making all the songs are from before 1985!

Daaaaaang! You guy are all great--I feel like such a rube and it's fab to get all these new recommendations.

Thanks Tyler, I'll check out all the bands you listed (*none* of them are known to me. i feel lame).

And Jenne, I'm having a similar issue to you in that I feel I listen to mostly "recycled" stuff that's at least 20 years old. Is it apt that the girl who makes recycled clothes is stuck listening to recycled music? Perhaps not! ;p

hi edgar--awesome, you're back again! YES i would *love* a cd of music from you--and if you give me your address i'll do the same...not sure what kind of music you're into, but i can make it rather ecclectic. Please send it to my address on my website (cayuga ave, san francisco), and send me your address on the email listed there, too! cool! :)
