get on the good stuff

some fun things:

-----------------------------

Based in the UK, TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development) is an organization devoted to recycling and restyling vintage and used clothing. They put on edgy fashion shows and even have boutiques dedicated to reconstructed items. Politically and socially-conscious, this would be a wonderful example for some organization to start up here in the ole U.S. of A., don'tcha think? Thanks to Sarah in the UK for this hot link...

-------------------------------

"Rebecca Turbow makes safe clothing..." so says her website. plus, you can buy some amazing handmade things in the online store, so check it out if you wanna dress like a retro 60s' handmade space maiden twiggy girl. they're super awesome.

-------------------------------

Cat Chow is the name of a girl in Chicago, as well as a pet food, and no, neither are related in any way. Her clothing designs are fashionable artworks that would be rather hard to wear, but are awfully interesting. Above is a top made of...phone cords.

hey sabs! where have you been? it's been 2 weeks into the school year and i haven't run into you yet... :D

i've seen a couple photos of ny fashion parties with ms. turbow in them, and i did notice she seems to be a walking embodiment of her clothing line. sort of like a larger performance piece, really!

amee, try a google for TRAID fashion shows--i came across a few more images...it's too bad they don't have an online shop, though. i like the idea that they have local in-house designers dedicated to making their stuff.
