more funstuffs!
The bloggosphere is too entertaining these days. So much funstuff it's crazy! Here's a few:

Interesting re-posted re-post found on Extreme Craft regarding the industry of distressing those $200 jeans (what an apt article as I am just distressing myself over jeans in general, too!--see previous post)...Scroll down the page a bit to find it and then follow the leader to the NYTimes article, as well...

Trisha of Bits & Bobbins has posted an array of links to awesome street fashion websites (like Hel-Looks, one of my faves). I love having them all in one place like this and now I will be clicking away at them to my heart's content. And she's pretty cool to read up on, too :) Go here and then look at the right-hand column to see 'em...Ugh, looking at all the international coolness really makes me feel like my hometown of San Francisco can be so plain dowdy in comparison--all that "California casual" is soooo boring. But that's a whole 'nother topic, ain't it?

Wardrobe Refashion really floats my boat because it's really a public challenge: can you wear only handmade or second-hand clothing for SEVERAL MONTHS? Check this:
The Wardrobe Refashion Pledge
I _____________,
Pledge that I shall abstain from the purchase of "new" manufactured items of clothing, for the period of 2 / 4 / 6 months.
I Pledge that I shall refashion, renovate, recylcle pre-loved items for myself for the term of my contract.
I Pledge that I shall create and craft items of clothing for myself with my own hands in fabric, yarn or other medium for the term of my contract.
I Pledge that I will share the love and post a photo of my refashioned, renovoated, recylcled, crafted or created item of clothing on the Wardrobe Refashion blog, so that others may share the joy that thy thriftyness brings!
Damn fab idea, ladies! Keep on rockin' out :)

On the subject of street fashion websites: I recently discovered (via Facehunter, which is linked on the Bits & Bobbins blog) a street fashion blog started by a fashion writer from Manila. It's mostly models, though, and not "true" street fashions, but as a Filipino-American who's never actually been to the Philippines, it really opened my eyes to a world of modern fashion that I never knew existed in the Philippines. Honestly, it's kind of embarrassing to admit it, but I get most of my information about Filipino art/culture from blogs like this, as well as yours. My parents left Manila in 1979 and have never gone back. Aaaanyway you can check out the blog here: http://mnlstyl.blogspot.com/
The blogger refers to it as "Third World Fashion", heh.
WHOA! small world--i was on your ninja vintage website yesterday (i think it linked from NEET magazine). it sounds like we do the same thing: research the philippines from afar, that is! i have the same issue in that i left when i was very little and only went back once as an adult. i am so curious about the contemporary filipino culture and fashion in general...just cuz it's the "third world" doesn't mean that people are interested in aesthetics and art and interpreting and transforming the world immediately around them. Hooray for Third World fashion--i say take the First World by storm!
thanks for the link, jenny. it's funny because they mention all these malls i've visited a few years ago, and it seems like the high-end ones are places the rich folks go to socialize and get away from the teeming "masses". a strange world, it is.
keep in touch! do you have a blog yourself?
hi! thanks for spreading the word about the street fashion sites (and by extension, the new blog, yay!).
p.s. i just bought the tunic you posted in the last post in your blog...SO CUTE. i always wanted to buy someting but everything sells out so fast! which is, of course, awesome for you.
p.p.s. you need an RSS feed for this blog so i can keep up with it! if you don't already (i didn't see anything about it when i buzzed over the page quickly a few minutes ago!)
You're welcome! I started a blog on Ninja Vintage back around January, but I ended up being so crazy busy that month that I forgot all about it. I'm supposed to move up to San Francisco in September so maybe after things get settled there I'll be able to start one up again (and actually update it on a regular basis).
I check your blog often so I'll definitely keep in touch! Your creativity and commitment to supporting a sustainable environment are really inspiring to me. (That's also a big reason why I thrift shop/have a vintage website/want to learn how to sew!) Anyway, take care and I'll comment again soon!
heya tricia--! it's gonna be fun to read about SF in your blog when you finally move over here :) I have no idea how to acquire an RSS feed, so i'll have to look into it. some other folks have asked me the same thing and I am totally clueless...it sounds like a good thing tho'.
wow, everyone's moving to SF! Jenny, too, it seems...and the funny thing is i'm thinking of moving out ($$$$, honey).
stephanie:
here are some links on blogger that should help you set up an RSS feed for your blog:
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=41450&query=RSS&topic=0&type=f
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=42015
that way we can all be informed when you post an entry, since the feed will be able to be picked up by news readers (how i like to read/keep up on blogs).
Thanks for the mention of Wardrobe Refashion!
New pledges are starting soon.
