The People's Burberry
2006

commissioned handmade scarf

I had a Burberry scarf made for me by Jennie, a home-based crocheter in Indiana. I found her online website and was particularly impressed with her skills in interpreting NASCAR logos into pillows and throws. I hired her to make a patterned scarf based on a tiny jpg of a Burberry one I found on the internet, which I emailed to her.

The resulting handmade scarf is more valuable to me than the "original" designer item could ever be. Jennie's patternmaking and ingenuity in translating the colors and style are impressive and I look forward to wearing it out in the world. Above all I appreciate her interest in making things she loves (NASCAR) as well as her abilities to translate things for other people.
