Sweater
Stack Color Theory
2005
Thrift
store sweaters, shelving, yellow vinyl, paper mache covered object,
clothing rack, colored paper, and resewn sweaters
This
work borrows from design exercises in color theory, while using
thrift-store sweaters arranged in a visual display reminiscent
of department stores. A rolling rack of “new” sweaters
reconstructed and restyled from second-hand garments stands to
one side, each being a wearable form of color composition, and
destined to be sold as revived, wearable commodities. A yellow
vinyl sticker dripping from one shelf takes the place of where
yellow sweaters should be, adding a (simulated) reference to the
medium of painting as color exploration. The stacked sweaters
will eventually be transformed into “new” sweaters,
to be sold under the artist's Anti-Factory
clothing label.
